Protect plants from the first frost
-
Know your tender list.
Dahlias, fuchsias, citrus, young Mediterranean shrubs and anything in a pot suffer first. Established natives shrug frost off.
-
Watch the night forecast, not the date.
The first frost is a weather event: clear sky, no wind, dropping dew point. Cover the evening before, not after.
-
Fleece on top, air inside.
Horticultural fleece or jute, loosely, to the ground. Plastic touching leaves freezes them worse than no cover.
-
Mulch the feet.
A thick ring of leaves or straw over the root zone protects what actually keeps the plant alive.
-
Uncover in the morning warmth.
Fleece left on for weeks breeds mould and blocks light. Cover for the night, breathe by day, until the cold settles in for real.

#1 becomes the Core. This atoma is young: submit a better distillation and take the seat.
No gear needed. Your pot, a timer and ice are enough. That is the point.
