Install a rain barrel that fills itself
-
Put it on a stand next to a downpipe.
Knee-height blocks or a stand: gravity pressure for the watering can comes from height, and the tap needs clearance.
-
Use a filling diverter, not an open cut.
The diverter kit taps the downpipe, self-limits when the barrel is full and keeps leaves out. An open downpipe overflows into the wall.
-
Drill the connection level with care.
The diverter height sets the maximum water level: its top edge must sit at the barrel’s full line, hose gently sloping.
-
Plan the overflow anyway.
Storms beat diverters. An overflow hose from the top of the barrel leads storm surplus away from the foundation.
-
Empty it for winter.
Ice bursts barrels and taps. Drain, disconnect the diverter into winter position, lid ajar or upside down.

#1 becomes the Core. This atoma is young: submit a better distillation and take the seat.
No gear needed. Your pot, a timer and ice are enough. That is the point.
