Start a worm bin indoors

Set up the bedding first.
Shredded damp cardboard and newspaper, a handful of soil, in a ventilated bin with drainage.

Add composting worms, not garden worms.
Red wigglers eat waste; earthworms tunnel soil. The species is the difference between a bin and a grave.

Feed little and buried.
Vegetable scraps under the bedding, a corner at a time. No meat, dairy, citrus piles or onions.

Keep it wrung-sponge damp.
Too wet drowns and smells; too dry stalls. Cardboard corrects both directions.

Harvest castings by migration.
Feed one side only for two weeks; the worms move over and the finished side lifts out.
