Stop a leak under the sink

Find where the water actually starts.
Dry everything, lay paper towel, run the tap. The wet spot on the paper points at the joint.

Hand-tighten the trap first.
Most under-sink leaks are a loose slip nut on the U-bend. Hands only; tools crack plastic.

Check the washer inside the joint.
Unscrew the nut, look at the cone washer. Flattened or cracked means a one-euro replacement.

Reseat and align before tightening.
Pipes must meet straight. A nut forced over a crooked joint always weeps.

Test with paper underneath.
Full tap for a minute, then look at the paper. Dry paper is the only proof.
