Split firewood with an axe
-
Use a maul on a low block.
A splitting maul, not a felling axe, on a knee-high chopping block. The block saves your back and the edge.
-
Read the log first.
Aim through existing cracks and avoid knots. Wood tells you where it wants to open.
-
Stand square, measure the drop.
Feet shoulder-wide, arms extended so the edge lands centre-log. A missed swing should hit the block, never your shin.
-
Swing with drop, not muscle.
Lift, let gravity work, accelerate only at the end, wrists rolling slightly. Splitting is timing, not force.
-
Work the edges of big rounds.
Split slabs off the sides instead of attacking the centre. Big rounds fall apart from the outside in.

#1 becomes the Core. This atoma is young: submit a better distillation and take the seat.
No gear needed. Your pot, a timer and ice are enough. That is the point.
