Hang a picture straight

draft · verifying 550k searches/moasked 185 ways distilled today
  1. 1

    Mark the eye line.

Centre of the picture at 145 cm from the floor. That is gallery height and it is right in almost every room.

  2. 2

Measure the hanger, not the frame.

Pull the wire taut upward and measure from the top of the frame down to it. Subtract that from your line.

  3. 3

    Mark and check level.

Pencil dot, spirit level across, second dot if you use two hooks.

  4. 4

    Set the fixing.

Plasterboard needs an anchor, solid wall a plug. A picture hook alone holds far less than you think.

  5. 5

    Hang and adjust.

Level it, then press a blob of museum putty behind one corner so it stays straight.

#1 becomes the Core. This atoma is young: submit a better distillation and take the seat.

No gear needed. Your pot, a timer and ice are enough. That is the point.
