Trim a hedge straight and healthy
-
Check the season and the nests.
Radical cuts belong in late winter; light shaping in June and September. And look for active nests first: in most places disturbing them is illegal, everywhere it is unkind.
-
Span a string line.
Two posts, a taut string at target height. The eye lies; the string does not.
-
Cut a trapezoid, never a box.
The base a hand wider than the top, so light reaches the bottom leaves. Box-shaped hedges go bald at the ankles.
-
Sweep upward in slow passes.
Trimmer blade slightly angled, rising strokes, walking the line. Speed makes steps and scallops.
-
Step back every few metres.
Check against the string from a distance. Corrections get expensive after the third metre of wrong.

#1 becomes the Core. This atoma is young: submit a better distillation and take the seat.
No gear needed. Your pot, a timer and ice are enough. That is the point.
