Revive a dying houseplant

Read the symptom correctly.
Yellow and soft means too much water. Crisp and brown means too little. They look similar and need opposite fixes.

Check the roots.
Slide it out of the pot. Healthy roots are firm and pale, rotten ones are brown and smell.

Cut away what is dead.
Trim mushy roots with clean scissors, remove dead leaves.

Repot into fresh, draining mix.
A pot with a hole, always. Most houseplants die in pots that cannot drain.

Change one thing and wait.
Move it to bright indirect light and leave it. Recovery takes weeks, and fiddling kills more plants than neglect.
