Not the display name. Look at what comes after the @, and look for near-misses.

Notice the pressure.
Account closing, payment failing, act within 24 hours. Urgency is the core technique, not a detail.

Hover every link before clicking.
The real destination shows at the bottom of the window. On a phone, press and hold.

Never open unexpected attachments.
Especially anything asking you to enable content or macros.

Verify through a channel you chose.
Type the address yourself or ring the number on your card. Never the contact details in the message.
