Use an app, not SMS.
SIM swapping defeats text codes. An authenticator app does not travel with your number.

Scan the code and confirm once.
The site shows a QR code, the app produces a six-digit code, you confirm.

Save the recovery codes offline.
Print them or write them down. This is what saves you when the phone is lost.

Repeat for banking and cloud storage.
